So, pretty much I am part of the kind of family who never goes ANYWHERE for spring break. it is very very disappointing. Last year, surprisingly, I went to San Francisco (pretty much the most amazing place in the world)...however this was just because of my little sister's golf tournament. I was still so happy though, and it was exciting to get outside of Lake Oswego and actually do something!
Well, since I am going to Paris in May with my best friend and her family, my parent's would not let me go to Cabo with all of my friends. Bummer, I know. But it sorta makes sense. It is just annoying that everyone is going somewhere hot and fun and I am stuck in LO. I have only one friend who is here with me, so thank god for that. Also, I will have plenty of time to make lots of art and focus alot on tidying up my concentration.
I was talking to my mommy about all the art I get to do this spring break and she got all excited and said we were going to do mommy/daughter bonding, but by making art together. So I am excited for that.
Mmk, gooooodbye, muah.

Art Blog
I was doing alot of thinking this weekend and lately, I realized, that I am seeing everything in reflections. I guess that is helpful because it is my concentration, but even though I am seeing everything in relflections, whether that be the reflection of the sun playing upon someones face, or my face reflecting upon my friends sunglasses. However, even though all I see are examples of relflections, I am still really stuck on what to do for my next two concentration pieces. It is really hard for me to come up with ideas :/ also, it is hard to do life drawings of them, because I don't want to sit in front of a puddle for ten hours. I think I am gonna start carrying my camera around with me from now on, so when I start seeing reflections I can try to capture the moment.
If anyone has ideas that would be nice, because I am really struggling. I have already done a self-portrait, relfection of sun onto the ocean, swans on a lake, feet in a puddle, and light off of cds.
SO PLEASE HELP. k thanks.

This One Artist I Sorta Know
My grandparents live out in Wilsonville kinda off of Stafford where there is LOTS of land and not many houses, and they live on this huge piece of land kinda like a farm. Well, they have this huge barn where they store lots of stuff, but they also let this one guy named something Blakely (I think??) use it as his art studio. When I was younger I remember wandering through the darkened shadows of the barn and looking up in awe towards the artwork he created. I can't seem to remember his name, which I feel awful about, and I am too lazy to go find my mother or call my grandma and ask.
But anyways, he always used the BIGGEST canvases, it was crazy. The huge barn was just splattered in paint as well and he made it such a great environment for creating art. His art is very impressive and brings me alot of inspiration. He does not use the barn as much anymore since he has his own studio in Portland now, but many of his paintings are still in there and it is very fun and inspiring to look at them.
Well, anyways what made me think of him was that my grandma is making me go to the opening of his art show! And I am very excited. I just gotta think about what his name is and remember so I can tell everyone and maybe upload some of his great artwork on here.
Alright that is all :] :] :]

Concentration Critique
Concentration Statement:
My concentration is focused on the idea of reflections. The artwork that I am creating will explore the ideas of finding reflections in normal and not so normal places: a mirror, surface of water, a teapot, etc. I hope to play with the lighting and color that is reflected across surfaces and objects to stretch the idea of reflections. I will use different media and images to express my opinion and views on reflections.
(statement still a work in progress)

***My first concentration piece is a contour line drawing of a reflection of myself in a mirror. (above) This is definitely not my best work, but I still am sort of drawn to it. There is way to much white space I think, and I am still working on it. I think that if maybe I added some color the piece would be more interesting to the eye. My drawing focuses on line most I believe, because the drawing consists of only one line. I enjoyed creating this piece of art, regardless of whether I am proud of it or not. It definitely differs from most of the work I create. Usually I stray away from portraits, especially self-portraits. There is not much movement in the piece, but I feel as though your eyes move across the piece as a whole by following the lines. This drawing is still a work in progress, so please give me any needed feedback and criticism! ***

***My second concentration piece is of a reflection of jewelry into a portable little mirror. So far this is probably my favorite piece that I have made. It is really simple and detailed, which is sometimes my favorite kind of art. There are still some small minor changes I would like to make to this, like making the mirror seem more cemented to the ground, because as of now it looks awkward, which is embarrassing. I do not want to change the white space, I think that it really adds to the piece as a whole. I think that there is a nice unity within my piece from the necklace on the ground to the necklace reflected in the mirror. I think that I demonstrate some good value within this drawing as well. There is not any movement, however, your eyes follow the necklace nicely through out the piece. Please give feedback!!***
***My third concentration piece shown on my blog is a water color painting of the sun and shadows reflecting across ocean water and sand. The sun was coming down so the colors of the sunset in the sky played nicely across the ocean. I was at the beach with Linnea and I was taking lots of pictures because the setting was just so beautiful and I found it so intriguing that reflections could occur on surfaces like sand, as well as water. I am no
t really fond of this piece, which is frustrating, but I am still working on making it how I like it. This differs greatly from the two drawings I did above, especially since I chose to not use a mirror for these reflections and I tried to use alot of color. I used a sense of color and value to design reflections throughout the piece. I feel as though there is a sense of balance between the reflection of the person across the sand and the reflection of the sun across the water. There is just something about this piece that doesn't seem right to me though, so please help me figure it out. K thanks. ***
Thank you for all the criticism and feedback, it is greatly appreciated :] (don't feel bad about hurting my feelings!)

-___-
I know that for our blog updates we are supposed to either upload pictures of our artwork or write about something that has to do about art, but im gonna write about college...but it actually has to do with art. Like the art programs at the schools im deciding between.
So I went to Eugene this weekend to visit some of my friends and I was talking to one of them about the art programs at University of Oregon. I do not know what I want to study next year, all I know is that I want to take art classes and english classes because those are my strengths. Oregon has good journalism classes I want to take, but I do not know that much about the art program, but people there I was talking to said that they really really enjoyed it, so that made me more excited about it. I just gotta research it more.

My second choice for college is USF (University of San Francisco). I think I have been wanting to go to this school since I was a little girl. But I probably won't because I cannot afford to fly home for holidays and things, let alone pay for tuition (since I gotta pay for college myself). But I am really interested in the art program there, and it gets me all excited!!

I get really stressed out thinking about next year and all the stuff I gotta do to get ready for college, and it just seems silly to me...especially since i have two concentration pieces to finish :/ !!!!

WOOOO
herrrooo
sooo i'm updating my blog tonight,
and I was walking around today and everywhere I looked I saw reflections...which is so weird, because lately I have been having panic/anxiety attacks over what the heck i was doing with my concentration! But I realized that I just need to let loose and have fun with this. Like today, the sun was out and there were reflections EVERYWHERE. Because the light was playing cool tricks across everything. I need to keep my eyes peeled for reflections in unusual places. I am working on a painting of a little girl jumping in puddles and I am very excited. If anyone has any reflection ideas please let me know!
Alright I should probably go to bed now, I am excited for art class and to keep working on my painting.

mehhh
So I guess I am gonna evaluate myself so far for first semester.
At the beginning of the year I think I kinda struggled to keep up with the Jesse Reno and A to Z and Scholastic Challenge projects because I missed alot of days when I had swine. But I think I finally caught up. I am going to be truthful and say that I do not like any of my concentrations at all. Okay thats a lie I like the mirror one thats reflecting pearls. I guess I am just not impressed with my own work at all and need to pick it up. :[ boo. Oh well it is second semester now, time to turn it around and get going!
